The Gunners have agreed a deal for Chambers.
Arsenal are set to complete their third signing of the summer with a £16m deal for Southampton right-back Calum Chambers, reports BBC Sport.
The 19-year-old will join Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy on the list of new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium this summer, with the Chilean joining from Barcelona in a £35m deal and the France international signing from Newcastle United for £12m.
Chambers will be competing with Debuchy for a place on the right side of defence, although Gunners manager Arsene Wenger views the Englishman as a versatile option.
Wenger will also experiment using the teenager in central defence and in a more advanced role and this could see some great development for the youngster.
Chambers will become just the latest player to be part of the exodus from St Mary’s currently, with the Saints having lost captain Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, Luke Shaw to Manchester United and manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur.
New boss Ronald Koeman is struggling to keep his squad together, with Dejan Lovren also expected to complete his transfer to Anfield, whilst Wenger is also interested in acquiring the services of Morgan Schneiderlin and Spurs have made an enquiry about the availability of Jay Rodriguez.
The transfer dealings in North London aren’t expected to be over with the arrival of Chambers and possibly Schneiderlin either, as Wenger has confirmed goalkeeper David Ospina will be joining from Nice as competition for current No.1 Wojciech Szczesny.
