Ten most expensive transfers that could happen this summer, including £100m Luis Suarez & £80m Man United target
The Gunners are big fans of the French international, who has had a superb season in the Premier League to establish himself as a genuine talent in that defensive midfield role.
This is precisely the position Arsenal need to strengthen in this summer, with doubts over the futures of injury-prone and off-form pairing Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta.
It looks as though a fee of £25m will be enough to persuade the Saints to sell, with Arsene Wenger’s side ahead of their north London neighbours in the chase for the 25-year-old.
Arsenal also raided Southampton for the signing of Calum Chambers last summer, and have also brought in Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the club in recent times.
Schneiderlin looks like he’d be another great buy for the club if his form this season is anything to go by.
