Arsenal told that they must pay the full release clause to sign FC Barcelona starlet, who is set to leave Camp Nou after his agent confirmed his desire to leave.
Arsenal must pay £3.6 million in order to sign Antonio “Tonny” Sanabria from FC Barcelona, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Paraguayan teenager has earned comparisons to a young Lionel Messi, due to his skills and temperament, but may not be set to follow the Argentine superstar into the Barca senior side.
Sanabria, who is just 17 but already possesses three caps at senior level for his country, instead looks set to leave the Catalan giants in search of first team football, and Arsenal certainly have a track record of blooding young players if they are good enough.
“We are on the margin of negotiations, hoping that Barcelona have a good attitude about it and can set the transfer of Tonny in stone,” said Sanabria’s agent Raul Verdu last week.
Barca are naturally reluctant to negotiate for one of their most promising talents, but Sanabria’s release clause of €5 million (approximately £3.6m) means that they may be powerless to retain him.
Arsenal will hope that they are the ones to take advantage.
