Reid has been told he has no future at Upton Park, after failing to agree a new contract with Sam Allardyce’s side, and the Hammers could cash in on the New Zealand international in the January transfer window, rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.
According to the source, Tottenham and Liverpool are also keen and Arsenal have made attempts to jump the queue as they believe West Ham may sell in the coming days.
Arsenal boss Wenger has made Reid one of his main defensive targets as he seeks a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona in the summer transfer window, and put their injury concerns at the back to an end.
Reid wants a contract worth £60,000-a-week and a £1m signing-on fee as a free agent in the summer but could command that in January at a top club. If a move fails to come off, Arsenal could turn to Celtic’s Virgil Van Dijk or Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings.
