Arsenal are edging nearer to their first signing of the January transfer window in AJ Auxerre forward Paul-Georges Ntep, according to French sources.
Auxerre.TV report that the 21 year-old Frenchman has scored seven goals and provided one assist in his 17 appearances for the Ligue 2 club this season.
Ntep plays most of his football on the left wing – cutting inside to shoot on goal or reverse pass to his overlapping full back – but is capable of playing right across the forward line.
It is not known where Gunners boss Arsene Wenger intends to play him if the deal goes through.
The Emirates Stadium outfit have few top class options behind Olivier Giroud up front, despite Nicklas Bendtner’s creditable performances when selected at centre forward.
At the same time, Santi Cazorla yet to find his form of last season on the left flank, while Lukas Podolski has earned few chances to impress since recovering from his hamstring injury.
Perhaps Arsenal will find a solution in Ntep – though it would be surprising if he was able to make the step up from Ligue 2 to Premier League midseason.
