Arsenal are edging closer to completing a deal for Napoli attacker Jose Callejon, according to reports.
The former Real Madrid winger is believed to be keen on exiting the Italian giants after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League in a disappointing campaign last season.
According to Sport Mediaset, Arsenal are ready to begin talks with Napoli over a deal and it is understood the 28-year-old is keen on a move to the Emirates.
Metro reports the Gunners would have to stump up £17.9m for Callejon, with Arsene Wenger keen to add a goalscoring midfielder to his squad.
The deal could be complicated by Arsenal’s chase for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, with eccentric club president Aurelio de Laurentiis reported by Daily Star as saying he’d “like” to sell the Argentine for an incredible £64m.
However, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will cough up such a fee for the 27-year-old a move for Callejon looks to be on the cards.
