Arsenal complete signing of French star Yaya Sanogo from AJ Auxerre on a long term deal.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign French striker Yaya Sanogo from AJ Auxerre on a long term contract.
The 20 year-old forward has agreed a long term deal with the north London club, and will likely become a backup player to the senior forwards at the club: Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.
The young Frenchman may well move ahead of Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner in the Gunners’ pecking order, with both seemingly surplus to requirements after spending much of the last season on loan, but with Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid heavily linked, he still faces a tough task to break into the first team.
Sanogo is a highly talented player for his age, but there is certainly a risk to his signing – even if it is on a free transfer, with the player having run down his contract at AJ Auxerre.
The youngster has an impressive physique for his age – like perhaps Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea – but perhaps growing at such a quick rate has had other costs on the body.
At just 20 years of age, Sanogo has already suffered a number of serious injuries, and the Gunners will hope that he becomes less prone to setbacks soon.
Sanogo has vast potential, with 10 goals in 13 games for AJ Auxerre last season, but has only made 24 club appearances in his short career – despite making his debut in the 2009-10 season.
“Sanogo is a good young signing for us,” said manager Arsene Wenger to Arsenal.com.
“He has shown that he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side.
“We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”
