Arsenal could return for World Cup winning midfielder Sami Khedira, report the Mirror, after the German international was put up for sale by Real Madrid after rejecting a new contract at the Bernabeu.
The Gunners were believed to have been interest in Khedira earlier in the summer, but manager Arsene Wenger withdrew his interest on account of Khedira’s questionable recent injury record and his huge £200,000 per week wage demands.
The Mirror report suggests that Wenger may be persuaded to return, however, after he refused to rule out signing a defensive midfielder following an injury suffered by captain Mikel Arteta that may rule the Spaniard out for some time.
He may also feel that Khedira may have lowered his demands after his exit from Real Madrid was all but confirmed, although the former Stuttgart man is likely to be extremely sought after by Europe’s biggest clubs.
