Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has emerged as a target for Arsenal, and the Gunners could sensationally re-sign the 33-year-old in the summer, reports the Metro.
Cole’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has yet to sign an extension at Stamford Bridge. This is looking increasingly unlikely too, as the English veteran has lost his place in the side to Cesar Azpiliceuta.
Cole left Arsenal in very controversial circumstances back in 2006, following claims that he was offended by the Gunners’ £50k-per-week contract offer.
Since arriving at Chelsea, he has won both the Premier League and the Champions League, and earned his 100th cap for the England national team, too.
Arsene Wenger apparently still rates the left-back extremely highly, but with nacho Monreal and Keiran Gibbs currently battling for the position at the Emirates, we think it’s highly unlikely, and verging on impossible that the French boss would risk the wrath of the fans to bring Cole back.
