Essien is leaving Milan in the summer.
Michael Essien is leaving AC Milan this summer and his agent Fabrizio Ferrari is already looking for a new club for the former Chelsea midfielder.
“I don’t think he will extend his contract,” Ferrari was quoted by CaughtOffside.
“He’s happy at Milan, and it’s possible he could stay, but I doubt that will happen. It’s difficult to predict what will happen in June.”
Arsenal have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Essien, with the 32-year-old possibly being the defensive midfielder that Arsene Wenger so greatly needs.

Captain Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini have not managed to impress in the role this season and Wenger has already admitted he is on the lookout for alternatives.
However, the Frenchman is also known as a frugal manager and therefore the fact Essien would be a free transfer is likely to appeal to the 65-year-old.
The Ghana international is well known in the Premier League having spent nine years at Stamford Bridge, winning two league titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League with the Blues.
