Brazilian left back Andre Santos wishes Arsenal and Gremio could have come to a deal over a permanent transfer.
Arsenal defender Andre Santos says he is disappointed to have to return to Emirates Stadium after spending six months on loan at Gremio in his home country of Brazil.
“My loan deal is over,” lamented Santos to Brazilian radio station Gre-Nal, as reported by ITV football.
“It was six months long and now I am returning. Gremio had an agreement with Arsenal and I have to return.
“I wanted to stay. Gremio were fair regarding everything. I felt well there and I wanted to win a title before leaving.
“Unfortunately there is no deal and I had to return to Arsenal.”
The 30 year-old Santos has been an inconsistent selection in the Gunners side ever since signing on transfer deadline day at the end of August 2011, and has only made 25 appearances for the north London side in that time.
There have been highs – his goal in the stunning 5-3 victory over Chelsea is one – but there have been far too many lows, with Santos not appearing to have the same fitness level or concentration as his colleagues, leaving vast gaps at the back.
Given that Arsenal have signed Nacho Monreal to offer Kieran Gibbs competition in the left back position, Andre Santos looks to have little path to the first team.
A transfer exit would likely be best for all parties.
