Arsenal transfer news
The Gunners had been in touch with the Frenchman’s representatives but had not yet made a formal offer to bring him to the Premier League.
However, according to reports in France, Arsene Wenger has apparently backtracked on the St Etienne star and will instead look to push through a move for Brazilian ace Gabriel Paulista.
The 24-year-old is a key player for Villarreal with 17 appearances this season and played the full 90 minutes in the Copa del Rey against Real Sociedad on Wednesday night.
There are concerns over whether Paulista would qualify for a work permit, though, so Wenger would be advised to make a contingency plan in case they run into trouble.
