North Londoners identify Netherlands full back for possible summer switch to the Emirates.
Arsenal hope to replace unsettled full-back Bacary Sagna with up-and-coming Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat at the end of the season, says the Metro.
France international Sagna has so far refused to put pen to paper on the new contract that the North Londoners have offered the right back and with his present deal set to expire in the summer of 2014, the club would rather sell the player at the end of this campaign rather than risk losing him for free next year.
And, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has identified Feyenoord’s Netherlands international as the man to replace Sagna at the Emirates, having been to watch the right back on a number of occasions already this season.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign to date in the Eredivisie, even contributing two goals for the Dutch club in his 23 matches so far, while the right back has also now been capped four times by his country.
However, when quizzed recently about a possible end-of-season move to the Gunners, Janmaat told Voetbal International: “Arsenal’s interest in me? I’m only thinking about Feyenoord right now.
“Much remains to be played this season before thinking about the transfer market at the end of the season.”
