Gunners to make their own move for German international.
Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and could look to make a move for him right under the noses of Premier League rivals Manchester United, according to the Metro.
With Thomas Vermaelen’s departure from the club set to go ahead later this summer, Wenger is ready to challenge the Red Devils for the services of the World Cup winning centre-back.
Borussia Dortmund have repeatedly stated this summer that Hummels is not for sale, but Arsenal believe a £30 million bid could test their resolve and tempt them to cash in.
Current skipper Thomas Vermaelen is set to move on this summer, with Barcelona believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, and the Gunners will look to replace the £10 million-rated stopper immediately.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Vermaelen, too, though it appears as though the Belgian would prefer a switch to Spain and Arsenal would rather sell to a club that aren’t rivals to their domestic ambitions.
Should United miss out on Vermaelen and then see the Gunners pip them to Hummels, boss Louis van Gaal will have to quickly identify further targets if he is to replace Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic this summer.
