Arsenal are keeping tabs on Catania right-back Gino Peruzzi, as they look to recruit an understudy for Mathieu Debuchy.
The Gunners already considered themselves short in the full-back area prior to the departure of Bacary Sagna, who has joined Manchester City, and Arsene Wenger is keen on recruiting a promising young talent to provide back-up for new signing Debuchy.
The 22-year-old defender is thought to be on Wenger’s radar, with negotiations set to take place early next week, according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio.
Peruzzi is an Argentinian national with four caps to his name, but only made the switch to European football at the start of last season. Catania paid Velez Sarsfield a reported €3.4million for the player in 2013, with the Argentine club set to make 15 per cent of any future transfer fee from the player.
He made 21 appearances for his Italian employers last season, scoring the one goal as Cantania finished 18th in Serie A and were relegated, accumulating only 32 points in the process.
Debuchy became Arsenal’s second summer signing earlier this week when he signed from Newcastle United for £12m, adding to the capture of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. He will take over the role of first-choice right back from Sagna, but at 28 is unlikely to be a long-term solution.
