Chelsea and Arsenal given hope in Sterling chase as Bayern drop interest
The FA Cup final provided a perfectly accurate reflection of the Premier League standings as Arsenal coasted to a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.
The Gunners won this prestigious trophy for the sixth time under manager Arsene Wenger’s watch, and they most recently won it last year against Hull City.
Arsenal showed plenty of promise heading into next season, as Theo Walcott showed once again that he is fully healthy and ready to be a key contributor for the Gunners.
The Gunners put together a fantastic team effort all around though. Here are the player ratings for the Gunners in their outstanding FA Cup performance…
Wojciech Sczcesny 7/10
The Gunners goalkeeper was not particularly spectacular, but he did not have much to work with and made no saves throughout the match. He was nonetheless effective in a shutout victory though.
Per Mertesacker 9/10
The Gunners defender put together a high-quality performance on both sides of the ball, as he scored the third goal of the game although it did not go off his head as he intended. He helped shut down Aston Villa star Christian Benteke though.
Laurent Koscielny 8/10
Koscielny aided Mertesacker in the Gunners’ fantastic defensive effort and also played a key role in making Benteke look bad right before he attempts to cash in during the transfer window. He also got a shot on goal in the process with a header.
Nacho Monreal 7/10
Monreal did not perform as well as his fellow defenders or have as much to work with, but he did not doing anything wrong either.
Hector Bellerin 7/10
Bellerin did not score any goals, but he was able to cross to Aaron Ramsey in the first half. This did not turn into a goal, but his contributions were valuable to the Gunners.
