Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas is emerging as a much coveted figure this summer as Manchester United join Arsenal in the face to sign the £6m rated star, according to the Daily Express.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on the Greece international as a potential replacement for Thomas Vermaelen – who joined Barcelona earlier in the month – and is understood to have submitted a £6m bid for the 23-year-old.
However, the Red Devils have now also shown interest as their own quest to improve their defence continues.
Louis van Gaal’s side suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Swansea City in their Premier League opener and as a result recruitment at the back has become a priority.
Marcos Rojo has since been signed from Sporting Lisbon for £16m, but van Gaal is keen to bring in at least one more addition before the window shuts on September 1.
This is what has drawn United to Manolas, whilst Serie A duo Juventus and Napoli are also understood to be interested in the centre-back.
Wenger still leads the chase for the Greek ace though and the lure of the North Londoners could prove to be too much for the other three interested parties.
