Everton are also keen on signing Eto’o this summer.
Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o good well be staying in the Premier League this summer as Everton join Arsenal in the pursuit of the 33-year-old, according to Tuttomercato.
The Cameroon international signed a one-year deal with the Blues upon his arrival from Anzhi Makhachkala last summer, but didn’t do enough in 2013/14 to see that extended.
Added to that is the fact that Eto’o has publicly criticised manager Jose Mourinho on more than one occasion after the 51-year-old made jokes about the forward’s real age.
Therefore the African is expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his current contract at the club expires at the end of this month and the Gunners have shown interest.
Their only current option in attack in any sort of form is Olivier Giroud – with Nicklas Bendtner expected to be released this summer and Yaya Sanogo yet to score his first goal for the North Londoners – and Arsene Wenger has admitted they relied too much on the France international last term.
However, like under Mourinho there is no guarantee for Eto’o that he would be regular face in the starting XI, with Giroud likely to be the preferred choice.
It’s this factor that the Toffees are hoping to use to their advantage, as they would be able to offer the Cameroonian more first team football.
Roberto Martinez is on the search for a replacement for loanee Romelu Lukaku, who netted 15 league goals last campaign as the Merseysiders finished fifth in the English top tier.
