Gunners are in urgent need of a new No 1 at the Emirates next campaign.
High-flying Serie A outfit Napoli have joined Arsenal in the race to sign coveted Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet at the end of the season, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.
The Belgium international has proved himself to be one of the Premier League’s most consistent and impressive shot stoppers so far this campaign, with the 25-year-old’s displays between the sticks for the Black Cats going a long way towards keeping Paolo Di Canio’s side in the top flight.
However, it is those eye-catching performances that have also resulted in a plethora of interest in the goalkeeper from both the Premier League, as well as from a number of clubs throughout Europe.
Mignolet is contracted to the Stadium of Light until the end of June 2015 and his club are understood to be desperate to keep hold of the player that they bought in June 2010 for just £2 million from Belgium side Sint-Truiden when the transfer window opens later this summer.
