Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy is understood to be gearing up to pip their north London rivals Arsenal to the signature of Standard Liege forward Michy Batshuay, reports the Daily Mail.
Spurs are presently waiting for the approval of Mauricio Pochettino, whom they want to take over the reins of the club, following which they would make a move for the Belgian youngster.
Batshuayi was in scintillating form for his club last season, which led to him piquing the interest of a number of suitors, including Arsenal. While club president Roland Duchatelet has already made it clear that they would not look to part ways with the youngster anytime soon, it is also understood that the player has an £8m release clause in his contract with the club. That in turn means that the race for his signature is likely to get heated up soon, with the Gunners still reported to be in the need of a long-term centre forward.
