The 28-year-old, who overcame Luca Vanni in his first game at SW19 this year, had never before reached the third round of a Grand Slam.
After beating Vesely, Ward said that winning his next match – against Vasek Pospisi on Saturday – would be on a par with his beloved Gunners winning the Premier League title.
He was quoted by The Mirror as saying: “Winning the third round would probably be like Arsenal winning the league next year. After that, we start thinking about Champions League finals… but let’s think about Saturday first.”

Arsenal have not been champions of England since 2004.

Arsene Wenger’s men are now as short as 4/1 on betting exchanges Betfair and BetDAQ.
