Lukas Podolski close to join Schalke on loan.
Arsenal are set to loan Lukas Podolski to Bundesliga outfit Schalke, according to German daily Bild.
The Germany international has been left on the bench for the Gunners opening two matches of the new campaign and reportedly wants more playing time ahead of next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
The former Bayern Munich forward made 33 league appearances for Arsenal last season after arriving from Cologne but was frequently substituted by boss Arsene Wenger.
Schalke are in need of attacking reinforcements after losing both Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Jefferson Farfan to injury in the past week.
Former Schalke star Gerald Asamoah, now at Greuther Furth, believes Podolski would fit in well at the Veltins Arena, saying: “Poldi is a great guy who will really suit Schalke. It would be brilliant.”
Schalke, who have picked up one point from their opening two Bundesliga matches, have a long standing interest in the attacker and failed in a bid to sign Podolski in 2007.
