Per Mertesacker’s impressive performances will earn him a new bumper deal at the Emirates…
Arsenal are ready to offer their German centre-half per Mertesacker a new bumper extension to his contract, reports the Mirror.
The giant defender’s contract runs out at the end of next season, but his impressive performances so far this term have encouraged the Arsenal hierarchy to pencil up a three year extension.
The 29-year-old had a shaky start to his career at the Emirates, but since the turn of the year has established himself a rock at the heart of the Gunners defence. His partnership with French stopper Laurent Koscielny has blossomed, and now club captain Thomas Vermaelen can’t even get into Arsene Wenger’s first-team lineup.
With a host of Germans at the club, including Lukas Podolski, Serge Gnabry and new £42m signing Mesut Ozil at the club, Mertesacker is comfortable on and of the field in North London, and Wenger is keen to tie him down at the club for the foreseeable future.
Arsenal currently ait at the top of the Premier League table following five consecutive victories, but Mertesacker and co. face a tricky task on Tuesday as Rafa Benitez’s Napoli side, spearheaded by former Gunners target Gonzalo Higuain, travel to England for a mouthwatering Champions League tie.
