Arsenal retain as good a chance of signing Gonzalo Higuain as ever, with the Real Madrid star yet to enter any talks with Juventus.
Arsenal could yet sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid after the striker’s agent confirmed that there had been no talks with Juventus over his future.
The Turin giants are competing with the Gunners for a number of transfer targets this summer, with Stevan Jovetic also thought to be of interest to both clubs, but it appears that neither move is as advanced as initially reported.
“Nothing has been agreed with Juventus,” said Nicolas Higuain, the Argentine forward’s agent and brother to Spanish publication Marca.
“The player still belongs to Real Madrid and the first thing we must do is meet with the club.
“The club, because of its current situation, is in the process of waiting to make decisions.”
Nicolas Higuain is likely referring to the club’s managerial uncertainty, with Jose Mourinho departing at the end of the season and his successor not yet confirmed.
Until that is resolved, a deal is unlikely to be agreed with either Arsenal or Juventus.
Regardless, it’s clear why Higuain is wanted by both sides.
He has scored 14 goals from 44 shots in La Liga this season, and that 32% strike rate makes him twice as effective as the average striker.
In his previous season, he managed 22 goals from 51 shots, meaning he scored with an incredible 43% of his efforts.
Given the Gunners’ profligacy at times, and Juventus’ desire for a top centre forward, any prospective deal could be one of the most exciting of the summer transfer window.
