Gunners were tracking France U21 international all last campaign.
In-demand Lyon midfield player Clement Grenier has given his strongest hint yet that he is set to quit the Ligue 1 giants this summer to join Arsenal next season, according to reports in the Metro.
The highly-rated young France Under-21 international has played for Lyon his whole career, making his debut for the club in 2009, and in the intervening four-year period the attacking midfield player has made 59 league appearances, scoring seven goals and creating a further 11 strikes for team-mates.
Meanwhile, overall the 22-year-old has managed to find the back of the net on seven occasions in 67 matches in all competitions for Lyon, as well as registering a further 15 assists along the way.
And it is those kind of numbers which have attracted the attention of Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger, who is understood to be preparing a bid for Grenier when the transfer window opens on July 1, with the player himself conforming on French TV: “I have made a decision about which club I will join this summer.
“I have made the choice for sporting reasons above all.
“Is it Arsenal? It could be them.
“There is competition for places there, but you get that at all big clubs. It won’t stop me making my decision.
“I’m still young, but I have always set myself targets and I’ll do everything possible to exceed them.”
