Arsenal are locked in talks with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund over a fee for the signing of centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, report the Mail, as Arsene Wenger looks to secure the capture of a new man in defence.
Dortmund and Jurgen Klopp value Sokratis at around £20 million, however, and are keen to keep hold of one of their key players having started him during Friday evening’s 3-2 victory away at Augsburg that finally got their Bundesliga campaign off the ground.
Wenger is keen to secure a third centre back, with teenager Calum Chambers now the only back-up for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny following the departure of Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona.
