Arsenal have received a major boost in its pursuit of Karim Benzema, with reports suggesting Real Madrid are resigned to losing the striker and have begun a search for a replacement.
Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, and The Telegraph reports a deal is now edging ever closer despite the La Liga’s side initial unwillingness to let the Frenchman leave the Bernabeu.
According to the report, Real Madrid are now willing to allow Benzema to join Arsenal and are looking at Sergio Aguero, Fernando Llorente and former player Alvaro Morata as replacements.
Metro [via AS] reports a £45.8m deal is being talked over between Arsenal and Real Madrid and will give long-suffering Gunners fans a glimmer of hope.
The latest reports contradict Arsene Wenger’s comments after Sunday’s Community Shield win over Chelsea, with the Frenchman stating that there was no talks with Real Madrid over a move for Benzema.
It wouldn’t be the first time a manager has played down speculation, and it seems this one isn’t done yet.
