Arsenal has been handed a boost in its chase for long-term target Julian Draxler, according to reports.
The Schalke star has been linked with a move to the Emirates for several seasons and Metro [via Bild] on Wendesday reported Schalke are willing to offload the player to fund a deal for Inter Milan ace Xherdan Shaqiri.
It seems the path for the Gunners has been cleared to sign the 21-year-old, with Draxler’s agent ruling out any interest from Serie A heavyweights Juventus.
“I’m in Italy,” Roger Witmann told Tuttomercatoweb, as reported by Daily Express.
“But I don’t know anything about Julian Draxler and a move to Juventus. He plays for Schalke 04, you’d have to ask them, these are just rumours.”
Draxler can play both as a creative midfielder and winger, and his versatility has made him one of Europe’s hottest young talents.
Schalke have issued a hands-off warning in the past few years over Draxler, but it now seems the Gelsenkirchen-based club are ready to sell the player in order to boost its transfer kitty and propel the club back up into the Champions League.
