Gunners make contact with Real but face competition from Juventus.
Arsenal have made an official enquiry for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, Goal.com understands.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Argentina international this summer, while Serie A champions Juventus are also said to have made contract with the Spaniards over about the 25-year-old.
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has publicly claimed that Higuain will cost more than £25m but Goal believes the Spaniard is attempting to force a bidding way between Juve and Arsenal, who currently lead the chase for the forward.
Juventus officials are said to have met Higuain’s representatives last Sunday, while the Gunners have also held informal talks with the Argentine’s camp.
Perez is reportedly preparing a mammoth bid for Chelsea target Edinson Cavani of Napoli, while Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Tottenham’s Gareth Bale are also thought to be on the club’s radar.
Higuain has made no secret of his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer but any deal will be delayed until Real have appointed a new head-coach.
