Arsenal still hold out hope of beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to the Metro.
The Gunners have reportedly held talks with the 24-year-old Frenchman over a possible summer switch to the Emirates Stadium, despite recent rumours that he would prefer a move to White Hart Lane to link up with his old manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Schneiderlin is desperate to leave Southampton this summer as he seeks a move to a bigger club, and he could join his old team-mate Calum Chambers at Arsenal if they win the race for his signature.
A host of other star players, such as Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw have all left the St Mary’s Stadium as well this summer, and the Saints will be desperate not to lose another of their big names in this transfer window.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are in the hunt for a quality new signing in midfield, having targeted the likes of Sami Khedira of Real Madrid and Sporting Lisbon youngster William Carvalho so far this summer.
