The Dutchman is seen as the ideal man to strengthen a shaky Arsenal defence, with Wenger failing to find the centre-back he wanted over the summer.
Celtic will be doing their best to hold onto the 23-year-old at least until the end of the season, but with van Dijk holding loftier ambitions they may struggle.
“Arsenal is an amazing club, of course. It’s a big club with a great history as well,” said van Dijk.
“I have ambitions, of course, like every player.”
With Arsenal severely lacking numbers in defence, Arsene Wenger will be hoping to bring at least one defensive player to the Emirates in January.
