Newcastle transfer news.
The Gunners have been keeping tabs on the France international for some time and are hoping to use the uncertainty at the club following Alan Pardew’s departure to land him for a cut-price fee.
Pardew announced he would be leaving St James’ Park on Sunday and looks set to succeed Neil Warnock at Crystal Palace, with rumours some of Newcastle’s best players will also leave emerging every day.
Sissoko has already publicly revealed his wish to play Champions League football and Arsene Wenger has announced that his priority in the January transfer window is a new midfielder.
However, it looks as if Wenger will have to pay more than the £9m he was hoping to outlay for the 24-year-old as the Magpies are determined to not let Pardew’s exit affect them too badly.
Sissoko was signed by the 53-year-old from Toulouse in the summer of 2013 for just £1.8m, but has since seen his reputation greatly rise and a price of £16m has now been quoted for the Frenchman.
