The Gunners want Manolas as support for Mertesacker and Koscielny.
After selling Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona on Saturday Arsenal have wasted no time in finding a replacement and want Olympiakos ace Kostos Manolas, according to the Daily Mail.
The departure of Vermaelen at the weekend has left the Gunners with only Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and new £16m signing Calum Chambers as available centre-backs at the club.
Yet by trade Chambers is a right-back and it’s thought that relying too heavily on the 19-year-old in his new role could actually hinder his development.
Therefore support is needed at the back and manager Arsene Wenger has identified Manolas as his No.1 target.
However, there could prove to an issue bringing the Greece international to the Emirates Stadium as he would like to be guaranteed regular first team football.
With Wenger preferring Koscielny and Mertesacker as his central defensive partnership it could prove to be difficult to provide Manolas with enough minutes on the pitch to keep him satisfied.
The 23-year-old has been with Olympiakos for two years following a switch from AEK Athens and he currently has 12 caps for the Greek national team.
