Gunners negotiating with QPR over goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
Arsenal are in talks with QPR to sign goalkeeper Julio Cesar and hope to land the Brazilian for as little as £1m, Goal.com reports.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to Cesar after baulking at Stoke’s £13m valuation of top target Asmir Begovic.
The Frenchman wants to sign a goalkeeper with Premier League experience, who can start Arsenal’s intricate passing game from the back.
The north London outfit enquired about Liverpool’s Pepe Reina but the Spaniard reportedly has his heart set on a return to Barcelona.
Cesar, 33, has impressed since joining the Hoops on a free transfer from Inter Milan last summer.
But his fine shot-stopping could not prevent QPR being relegated and Arsenal are aware the the R’s need to offload the £80,000-a-week stopper ahead of life in the Championship.
Speaking ahead of Brazil’s 2-2 friendly draw with England on Sunday, Cesar admitted negotiations were ongoing with other clubs.
“There are indeed talks with some teams, but nothing definitive,” he said. “I want to stay in England. I am enjoying London and I love the Premier League.”
“I won’t name the teams as it would not be ethical since I am under contract with Queens Park Rangers. I let people responsible for my career deal with it.”
