The former Man United ace underwent surgery on his left knee, and Arsenal remain unchanged in their stance on how long his rehabilitation will take with Hodgson claiming that he could be sidelined into next year.
Meanwhile, Wenger has also been handed a more immediate boost with the news that defensive pair Mertesacker and Koscielny will both be fit to face Stoke on Saturday.
The German international has missed the last two games with a virus while his French teammate was rested by France against Serbia this week as a precaution after struggling with a back injury.
However, it is reported that both players are back in training and are expected to play against Mark Hughes’s side.
Jack Wilshere is also continuing his rehab work after sustaining a hairline fracture to his left fibula, but he is expected to resume training next week.
