Arsene Wenger has predicted that Danny Welbeck should be fit to return after the international break.
The England forward is yet to play this season because of a long-standing knee problem which also caused him to miss the final six games of the 2015-16 campaign.
But Wenger has revealed that the 24-year-old is making good progress and could make his comeback against either Stoke City on September 12, or Chelsea the following week.
The Frenchman told his press conference on Thursday ahead of their trip to Newcastle United on Saturday: “Welbeck is progressing well and should be back after the international break.”
Welbeck joined the Gunners from Manchester United for a fee of around £16m last summer, and scored four goals in 25 Premier League appearances, as well as four in cup competitions.
