Barcelona flop Alex Song could return to Arsenal this summer, as Arsene Wenger continues his search for a holding midfielder who could replace the injured Mikel Arteta.
Reports in the Daily Express claim that the Cameroonian international could be available for as little as £9m, despite being under contract at the Camp Nou until 2017.
The 26-year-old played 205 games in seven seasons with the Gunners, before making the £15m move to the Spanish giants in 2012. He has played 65 times in two years for the Catalans, but has failed to impress new manager Luis Enrique.
Arsenal are widely believed to be chasing a defensive midfielder this summer, with their desire only being increased by the injury sustained by captain Arteta.
They have been linked with Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho this summer – but are aware that Song would be a more realistic option financially, with a lower transfer fee and lower wages.
Manchester United and Tottenham have also been linked with the player, but the source believes that the player would prefer a return to his former club.
