Gunners join Chelsea in race to sign England international star.
Arsenal have joined Chelsea in the race to sign unsettled Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, reports Goal.com.
The two London clubs have reportedly registered their interest in the 27-year-old after being alerted to the possibility that he could leave Old Trafford this sumer.
Rooney allegedly request a transfer from United two weeks ago but was told in no uncertain terms that he was not for sale by boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson has since announced his retirement and the 71-year-old will be replaced at the end of this season by David Moyes, with whom Rooney has a fractious relationship.
Moyes arrival has only strengthened Rooney’s resolve to leave Manchester and with Arsenal and Chelsea both on the look out for a new striker, London appears his most likely destination.
To add intrigue to the link with Arsenal, a respected twitter source has claimed that the Gunners have been interested in the former Everton striker for well over a month and that Rooney would consider a switch to north London.
I was told 6 weeks ago that Arsenal are interested in Rooney and Rooney is interested in Arsenal. Approx 20m. No idea about the wages.
