Five Arsenal transfer targets ahead of the January transfer window, with Gunners scouts already travelling around Europe to monitor talent.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has conceded that he may have to enter the January transfer market to maintain the Gunners’ lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League.
The north London outfit are currently three points ahead of their UEFA Champions League Group rivals Napoli and Borussia Dortmund too, and while they are expected to progress to the knockout stages of the competition, more strength in depth may be required to maintain their charge on all fronts.
“Look, I am not against it,” said Wenger when asked if he would consider buying a striker in the new year, though he did rule out a move for long term link Karim Benzema.
Arsenal have now been linked with a number of signings for the January transfer window, and the five targets identified by the media follow below.
Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is reportedly unhappy in the French capital, and the Daily Express report that Arsenal immediately responded to the Uruguayan’s decision to put out feelers to the top European clubs.
Cavani is one of the very best forward players in world football, and the joint top goalscorer in Ligue 1.
Arsenal are in clear need of additional firepower in attack in case of any enforced absence for Olivier Giroud, the current focal point for the Gunners up front – whether that is through injury, suspension or merely rest due to fatigue.
Edinson Cavani would be a hugely expensive target though, given that he earns £135,000 per week and cost PSG over €60 million (approximately £52.8m in the summer).
Given the Qatar oil money backing Paris Saint-Germain, they are also under no pressure to sell.
