Higuain has long been linked with a Premier League move to Arsenal, and Metro reports the Gunners have put forward a £43.3m bid to the Serie A giants for the Argentine international.
However, Napoli club director Cristiano Giuntoli delivered a hammer blow to Arsene Wenger’s hopes of signing the 27-year-old saying the former Real Madrid man was not for sale.
“Higuain is a phenomenal player and that is why he is not for sale. He will remain at Napoli,” club director Cristiano Giuntoli told SportItalia, as reported by Football Italia.
Whether or not Giuntoli’s comments are a tactic to drive Higuain’s price up remains to be seen, and it will be interesting to see if the Gunners are willing to increase its offer.
Napoli will not feature in the Champions League next season, and Napoli could struggle to hold onto a player who has made no secret of his desire to play in Europe’s top competition.
Higuain has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it seems the Gunners are in pole position to snare the Argentine’s signature should Napoli decide to sell.
