In an increasingly competitive race for Egyptian Premier League teenage star Ramadan Sobhy, Arsenal have emerged as the top contenders for his signature.
According to the Metro and HITC Sport, Arsenal are considered the frontrunners for the Al Ahly midfielder’s services over Serie A giant Roma as well as a number of unspecified teams from Spain, Germany, France and the Premier League. Arsenal reportedly invited Sobhy to a trial with the club back in February, but Al Ahly would not allow it.
A playmaking midfielder for the Egyptian Premier League outfit, the 18-year-old Sobhy has recorded 7 goals in just 22 appearances for Al Ahly and has been dominant as a member of the Egyptian U-18 squad since 2013, recording an extra six goals in just 19 appearances. Sobhy was later elevated to the Egyptian national team and made his international debut against Tanzania in the first round of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier when he was just 17.
