Arsene Wenger has a star-studded roster heading into the 2015-16 season. Will it be good enough to topple Chelsea and Man City to win the Premier League?
The Gunners inability to beat Chelsea last year cost them a shot at the Premier League title, but the roster this year might be the one to do it as one Arsenal legend believes.
Former Arsenal midfielder Frank McLintock, who played for the Gunners from 1964 to 1973, told talkSPORT that his ex-club’s ability to retain all of its big stars and land former Chelsea stopper Petr Cech have made it – in his eyes – the favorite to win the Premier League this year.
“It’s the strongest squad I’ve seen Arsenal have and I think they are going to go much closer than they have before,” McLintock said. “In the last nine years I’ve felt Arsenal were a long way from winning the championship but I think this is the closest they have been. The whole squad looks much stronger to me.”
Last season Arsenal finished 3rd behind Chelsea and Man City on the Premier League table, but conquered the FA Cup tournament and defeated Aston Villa in a dominating 4-0 FA Cup Final win.
McLintock signed for a club-record £80,000 in 1964 and led Arsenal to a win in the First League (now Premier League) and the FA Cup in 1971 – the club’s first ever Double.
