The 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad provided the Gunners faithful with renewed hope that their current side has the quality to deliver the Premier League trophy for the first time since the 2003/04 season.
However, such optimism has been brushed aside by former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell:
“They have hit some form recently and can maybe win the FA Cup again,” the Englishman was quoted by CaughtOffisde.
“But, as far as I am concerned, the title is out of reach.”
What’s more, Campbell believes that even with the likes of Alexis Sanchez starring in the league, that the current team is miles off the the ‘Invincibles’ of 2003/04:
“There was Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Freddie Ljungberg, Gilberto Silva, Patrick Vieira – at his best – and Robert Pires, who was an outstanding passer of the ball,” Campbell continued.
“And we didn’t even cost that much – we’d be worth £1billion today.
“The win at City was good and Sanchez is a very good player. But the whole of our team were very good, if not world-class, players. This current Arsenal side need to grow as a team and show their potential.”
