Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown is worried that the Gunners’ failure to sign Liverpool’s Luis Suarez could come back to haunt them, talkSPORT reports.
Arsenal publicly courted the Uruguayan striker in the summer, and had an infamous £40m plus £1 big turned down, under the false pretences that it would active a release clause.
Since then, Suarez has arguably been the form player in world football this season. He’s scored 23 goals in the Premier League, and registered seven assists, and is a strong favourite for the Player of the Year award.
Keown is worried that the world-class operator will dent Arsenal’s season in the upcoming fixtures between the sides…
“I hope he doesn’t end Arsenal’s season because they fought very hard to get him and I think they realised they needed that type of player. He would have been the icing on the cake,” he said.
Arsenal travel to Anfield at the weekend knowing a win will keep them at the top of the table. They also have drawn the Reds in the FA Cup, but could deploy a weakened side with a crunch Champions League tie coming up against Bayern Munich shortly afterwards.
