Adams believes Wilshere has not lived up to the expectations of him.
Ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League season Arsenal legend Tony Adams has some stern words for current midfielder Jack Wilshere.
The former captain believes that Wilshere should have taken the Gunners’ club record £42.4m purchase of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid last summer as a personal insult.
“He should have taken it as a personal insult that Arsenal went out and signed Ozil when they already had the same talent at their disposal in him,” Adams told the Sun.
“We can talk all day about things Jack can improve on – like scoring more goals – but he needs to get on the field more.
“He has to be more verbal, shake things up and show more fire in his belly.”
Since breaking into the first team at the Emirates Stadium back in 2008 the progress of Wilshere hasn’t been as rapid as many would have hoped.
In recent times Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has also criticised the England international and there are no guarantees the 22-year-old will be in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI during the new campaign.
Wilshere will be competing with the likes of potential new skipper Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby, Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey for a place in central midfield, with another new signing in the middle also being heavily linked.
