It appears that Arsenal will not be able to convince Real Madrid to sell striker Karim Benzema to them for £50m as reportedly planned.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is urging his old team to take more action in the last week of the transfer window though, as the Gunners have been relatively quiet in the transfer window aside from the superb capture of Chelsea gloveman Petr Cech.
“I think it is going to be a massive week – are they going to buy someone up front or in the middle of the park?” Henry asked, according to NBC Sports.
“They were missing a lot of players tonight. They still need a holding midfielder and they still need a striker. We have been saying it since the beginning of the season.”
The Gunners are reportedly keen to sign a world-class striker, and it’s easy to see why Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen in the front third.
They were shut down by a resolute Liverpool defence on Monday, as forward Alexis Sanchez put in an underwhelming performance.
Arsenal’s midfield had a forgettable showing against Liverpool, as Mesut Ozil became the subject of ridicule from fans.
The Gunners continue to lack depth in midfield, so there’s a good chance that they may heed Henry’s advice in the next week.
The transfer window is set to close on August 31.
