North London club are desperate to bring more defensive reinforcements to the Emirates for the next campaign.
Arsenal are set to make a £12 million bid for unsettled Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel when the transfer window reopens later this summer, says the Daily Express.
The tall Slovakia international has been at Anfield for five years now, having been brought to the Reds from Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg for just £6.5 million in January 2008 by previous Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
However, in the previous campaign under the new man in charge at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers, the 28-year-old lost his regular starting place at the back alongside fellow centre-back Daniel Agger, with veteran defender Jamie Carragher replacing Skrtel.
And as a result, the player is now believed to want a move away from Merseyside when the transfer window finally swings open once again on 1 July, with the Gunners set to be his next likely port of call.
Skrtel, who has featured in 206 matches for the Reds, scoring nine times in the process, has a contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2016, with the north Londoners hoping to be able to snap the defender up for as little as £12m.
