Arsenal want to sign superstar Italian maverick Mario Balotelli in the summer, Italian newspaper Tuttomercato is reporting.
The 23-year-old forward last graced the Premier League at Manchester City, where he enjoyed a two-and-a-half-year spell which included a title in 2011/12, before he left to join Serie A giants AC Milan in January 2013.
Since then, Balotelli has established himself as one of Europe’s best strikers, scoring 25 goals in 38 appearances, but the controversial striker is apparently not prepared to spend another season without Champions League football.
Milan currently sit 10th in Serie A, 15 points off the Champions League spot, and barring a miracle, Il Rossoneri will not be competing in Europe’s premier competition next term.
Balotelli has a close affinity with English football, and perhaps feels he has unfinished business over here after failing to live up to his outstanding potential with City.
Arsenal currently only have Nicklas Bendtner as an established backup centre-forward option for Olivier Giroud, and fans are keen for them to bring in a world-class striker as the final piece of Arsene Wenger’s jigsaw.
Milan will no doubt be keen to keep hold of Balotelli, but if the forward kicks up enough of a fuss, and Arsenal put their money on the table, there’s no reason why a move couldn’t materialise.
The Gunners currently top the Premier League table, and are preparing for a mouthwatering Champions League tie with holders Vayern Munich, and a 5th Round FA Cup match with Liverpool.
