Gunners want France international at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are considering a summer move for £15m-rated Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons, reports the Daily Mirror.
Boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old on several occasions this term and is ready to step up his pursuit of the France international at the end of the season.
Gonalons is under contract until 2016 but the cash-strapped Ligue 1 oufit are ready to listen to offers of around £15m for the defensive midfielder, who has made 32 appearances this season and impressed in front of the back four.
The six-cap Les Bleus star has excelled at passing, tackling and intercepting for Remi Garde’s side and has all the attributes to complement the Gunners’ classy but flimsy midfield trio of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta.
Wenger is desperate for new holding midfielder this summer, with Abou Diaby facing nine months on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. Aaron Ramsey has failed to impress in the role, while Arteta favours a more advance position.
