Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger are reportedly to make a surprise bid to entice Chelsea youngster Nathaniel Chalobah to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have been linked with a stunning move for young Chelsea defender Nathaniel Chalobah by the Daily Star.
The 18 year-old has been on loan at Watford for the duration of the current season, and has been instrumental in their push for automatic promotion from the nPower Championship to the Barclays Premier League.
Chalobah broke into the Watford side at the end of September, with the Hornets languishing in 20th place having lost four of their opening six matches.
Of course, it would be naive to say that the teenager was the only factor in Watford’s improved form, but at the same time he still deserves plenty of credit.
Playing in both central defence and in an anchor midfield role, Chalobah has demonstrated his value with increasingly better performances, and he now has four goals for Watford in his 27 appearances this campaign.
Such improvement mature displays from Chalobah at 18 bode exceptionally well for the future, and Chelsea will doubtless be keen to keep him.
However, at least in the immediate future, he may find it difficult to find his way into the Chelsea line-up, as the likes of Josh McEachran have before him.
Arsenal at least have a proven record of giving youngsters a chance, and Arsene Wenger is a great developer of young talent.
The Star story claims that Wenger hopes to entice Chalobah across London with the promise of a quick path to the first team, and the young England player of the year could be tempted to wear red and white.
